| Designed
and manufactured for the special requirements of
British Gas, and based on thevery successful
GascoseekerŪGas Detector, the main applications of
the GMI Oxygas 2 portable gas detector
is in purging operation and in other safety critical
situations.

|
The
Oxygas 2 employs the latest in micro-processor technology to produce a rugged,
accurate, low-cost instrument with an extended operating life using pellistor
type sensors for flammable gas and an electrochemical cell for Oxygen. a
solid-state LCD provides both analogue and digital gas level displays, as well
as status information and is automatically illuminated under poor lighting
conditions. The display is protected from impact damage by toughened glass and
a stainless steel plate. The instrument case is moulded from polypropylene to
give high strength with light weight and all connections are within the
instrument body, giving a smooth profile to reduce impact damage. The flow
path is protected from water ingress by hydrophobic filter and a flow sensor.

|
The data for instrument calibration and management is
accessible via a sealed infra-red link, thus the Oxygas 2 can be checked and
calibrated without opening the instrument. When used with a GMI
computer-controlled Depot Checker and integrated Instrument Management System,
maximum of skilled staff time is ensured. This total package reduces the cost
of ownership both in individual capital cost and in maintenance.

A typical application for the Oxygas 2 would be in the repair
of gas distribution systems. In these situations, the pipe is closed at both
ends and a Nitrogen based mixture is introduced to exhaust the combustible
gas. Work can then be safely carried out on the pipe. It is thus crucial that
the levels of combustible gas are checked to ensure that the Nitrogen compound
has exhausted the gas, and that no potentially flammable air mixture has been
introduced in the process. The GMI Oxygas 2 allows the user to check both
levels with a certified intrinsically safe instrument.
The Oxygas 2 can operate in two models Purge Mode and Measure
Mode.
In purging applications, the Purge Mode allows the user to
switch between the Volume Gas and Oxygen ranges.
In other applications the Measure Mode is used and the Oxygas
2 auto ranges between the L.E.L and Volume Gas ranges. In this mode the
instrument operates as the GascoseekerŪ Mk2 Gas Detector, which is widely
used throughout the gas industry

The instrument has three measuring
ranges:
- 0 to 100% Volume gas (in
air or Nitrogen, or a combination of both gases),
- 0 to 100% L.E.L. (Lower
Explosive Limit), and
- 0 to 21% Oxygen.
